Social safety net: who to support after the 2027 federal cuts
The Federal Council's relief package 2027 proposes to cut CHF 70.3m a year by 2029 from social safety net. Here is what the cut means, and Zewo-certified charities in every canton that work on it.
What is cut
- CHF 67m The socio-demographic burden equalisation is cut by about a quarter. It pays cantons with high social costs (poverty, old age, foreign population, city centres); 10 cantons lose money. (measure 55)
- CHF 0.3m Federal training grants for staff of victim support services end; cantons must pay for the training themselves. (measure 38)
- CHF 3m Organisations that host civilian service workers no longer get federal grants for it, which may mean fewer placements, for example in social care and nature conservation. (measure 25)
